Who We Are
22 x 25

For me the excitement of creating an Art Quilt begins when I take white cotton cloth, blend color, and dye the fabric. I usually work spontaneously, seldom drawing the design, instead allowing the ideas to evolve and flow. Reflections of some major influences in my life may be seen in the references to the people of Africa, a great interest in dancing, and my work with children. Above all I love to build movement and story into my quilts with the use of appliquˆ©, silk screening, and wild color. Only occasionally do I complete a work with straight edges--I see no need to be constrained by 'straight and matching'--rather, I work on the premise that freedom from such restrictions allows me to explore and stretch my creative boundaries.
